Is Itching At 32 Weeks Of Pregnancy Normal?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Aug 2022
Question: I am 32 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I had itching and my doctor asked for LFT to be done in which Ast and alt levels are 47 and 63 respectively. Doctor prescribed udiliv 150 mg twice a day but there is no relief in itching. Alkaline phosphate is 164. Is this a serious problem? How does it affect baby's growth and what are the remedies? The other levels are:-
Bilirubin :- 0.3
Protein:- 6.3
Albumin:- 3.3
S.Gobulin:- 3.0

Brief Answer:
Explained below

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

This is nothing to worry about as it is quite common during the last trimester of pregnancy. Your doctor has rightly prescribed you with Udiliv tablet, this will help to control the levels of bile pigments. The itching is a result of the raised bile pigments. This might persist throughout the remaining pregnancy and will resolve within a few days after delivery.

I would suggest you to continue with the medication and you may choose to use calamine lotion topically over the areas involved for a cooling effect.

Also get regular check ups with your obstetrician and also do the follow up blood tests monthly to check the liver enzymes.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards
