Is Lisinopril Advisable To Take Along With Advil And Aleve?
My 92 year old mother broke her arm 8 wks ago . Advil and Tylenol has been
Prescribe. In May her kidney #'s were elevated, 94 I think. Dr said early signs
Of kidney failure. 5mg of lisinopril was prescribed. Now as I see what it's for,
I realize she has none of these problems; no high blood pressure, no congestive heart
Failure and no heart attack. She has gone downhill drastically in the last month. She
Can hardly feed herself, very confused-can't tell a bowl from a cup. Takes lorazepam for anxiety
And sleepiness. And last of all for sleep nortriptyline 10mg. She's still awake 3 hours later.
What's wrong with this picture? Two other drug that were problems I won't even go into. Thanks

Lisinopril was prescribed for renal protection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I would like to answer your query.
Yes, it is correct. Lisinopril should be avoided with advil and aleve. Lisinopril is a Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. Its main function is in blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It has also another important function, which is commonly used in diabetics (can be used otherwise too)- Renal protective effect - It is supposed to directly protect glomeruli and slows deterioration of Kidney. NSAIDs pain killers should be usually avoided in patients with reduced kidney function as it can cause renal failure.
Lorazepam has been prescribed for sleep and anxiety.
However, nortriptyline is also prescribed for sleep? or is it depression? When did the symptoms of confusion start? whether is it related to to Nortriptyline. If yes. It needs to be tapered and stopped and changed.
Ask her to maintain a sleep hygiene - normal sleep cycle.
The only picture wrong here seems to be nortriptyline, which has affected her sleep cycle with these side effects. However, if you provide me with answers to the above questions and additional symptoms, I can help you more.
If you have any further queries, do ask again.
