Is Maxtra Drops Safe For Child Suffering From Arthrogryposis?
Question: hi sir..my baby is 3 month old with arthrogryposis..he is suffering from stuffy nose and some chest congestion...doctor has prescribed him maxtra oral drops 5 drop thrice daily for 5 days...added info..we recently did his blood test for tsh t3 t4...t3 and t4 were normal but tsh was 0.05...at birth tsh was 4.43 which was within normal limits....before test was done he was on antibiotics for 10 days due to bacterial cough...so giving maxtra drops is safe?
Brief Answer:
repeat the test
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
I think you should repeat the test for t3, t4 and tsh.
Low tsh [as in our case] suggest hyperthyroidism [subclinical or due to non thyroid illness].
Repeat test after a week to confirm the diagnosis and consult the Endocrinologist.
For cough and cold you complete the treatment as advised by the treating doctor.
Maxtra drops can be given for cold as advised by the doctor.
As you have already completed the antibiotic course you can only give symptomatic treatment now like maxtra for cold.
Hope i helped you.

we were using budecort respules which is a steroid...can it lower tsh?
Brief Answer:
Less likely
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up.
As far as studies are concerned budesonide respules may increase TSH (hypothyroidism).
But we are dealing with sub clinical hyperthyroidism, so it is less likely that this result is due to budesonide respules.
Hope I helped you.
