Mosquitoe-borne diseases prevalent in USA
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Some of the mosquitoe-borne diseases prevalent in USA are:
Malaria Incubation period-average 12 -13 days.
Chikungunya Incubation period-1 to 12days, and is most typically 3 to 7 days
Dengue Incubation period-average 3-8 days
Yellow Fever Incubation period-average 3-6 days
St. XXXXXXX Encephalitis Incubation period-4–21 days,
LaCrosse Encephalitis Incubation period-7–14 days,
West Nile Virus Incubation period-3–14 days
rarely:
Western Equine Encephalitis (WEE) Incubation period-~5–10 days,
Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) Incubation period-~5–10 days
The list is not exhaustive.
Not necessarily all mosquitoes are infectious .
A kid will not be able to relate any symptom.Look for fever(rise of temperature),rash,(dengue, yellow fever),yellowness of skin (yellow fever),redness of eyes or conjuctivitis (mostly indicating viral fever )and non-specific symptoms common to any infectious disease like irritability/crying,listless,refusal of feed, impaired level of consciousness(in advanced cases) etc.
However the photo shows that your kid has erythematous reaction with a red nodule due to allergic reaction to the mosquito's saliva. It will subside gradually. I would not be overly concerned about infections here. You may watch for aforementioned symptoms. See your doctor if the current lesion evolves in larger rash or if he has more rashes else where.
