Question: I would like to know whether a geriatric patient with overlap myeloproliferative/myelodysplasticity disorder; monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis; COPD; pulmonary oedema; and CCF is likely to be terminal. Detailed information will be sent to YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
end of life is unpredictable
Detailed Answer:
after going through all the reports, I can understand that he is sick. But you need to understand that the end of life events are totally unpredictable. The most worrying and worse thing from the reports is his age. if the same condition is seen in middle aged person, we can expect positive response because his physiology would be different. understand that elderly people behave differently. Their reserves are much less, hence even a slight tilt in balance can cause major havoc.
Difficult to say that he would definitely come out of this condition but we cannot conclude that he would definitely die now. If this acute condition passes off with the treatment, he might again become normal and carry on his activities.
we cannot label him as 'terminally ill', he is 'sick' due to some condition.
