He was taking 1/2 of a prilosec for the last 6 months. He does not smoke , but drinks a glass of red wine most nights. He takes atorvastatin and armor thyroid. He is off prilosec because he thinks it will cause fragile bones. He took it for 10 -14 years. Right now he gets a bloated stomach, gas, and burps. He drinks coffee but has cut it down to 1 cup a day since he has been off the prilosec which is 12 days. No pain in the stomach.

Here are my suggestions

Hi,
Thanks for writing back,
I understand your husband's issues.
Here i will mention medical options as well as remedies for him.
**Life style changes:
1) He should increase fibre in his diet,
for example he can eat whole wheat bread, then he can take fibre supplements and fibrous fruit vegetables.
2) He should avoid fizzy drinks and caffeinated drinks, for example coffee tea, energy drinks.
3) He should walk daily most preferably after dinner a 15-20 minutes of walk will be really helpful.
4) He should do binge eating, can divide his 3 big meals into 5 small meals this will help.
5) Drink water before meal of id required ,during meal, not after meal.
Medical options:
1) He can use A prokinetic like motillium this will help with burping and bloating.
2) I would also tell such patient in my clinic that he can combine prokinetic with zantact 150 mg twice a day .
3) There is a very good medicine Palsil ( metoclopramide with enzymes) , it may be present with some other brand name in your area , that really helps such patients in my clinic.
4) He can combine an antacid like gaviscon with zantac and prokinetic.
5) He can even go with a prilosac at alternate day with zantac other wise.
6) He can use half dose of prilosac with zantac to augment its strength.
These are different medicine options which can help, tums are just for temporary relief. Now i will tell you what would be helpful in my opinion.
I think best thing which he can do is option 2 ... Prokinetic + zantac + life style changes i mentioned above.
You can discuss these options with your doctor.
I wish him best of health.
Have a blessed weekend.
I Hope this answers your question, if your have more queries feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it. Wish you the best of health.
Regards,
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad.
