Is Negative DUO CMIA HIV Test After 4 Weeks Of Exposure Conclusive?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Test values have no importance, only to know negative or positive
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
There is nothing serious to be worried.
Earliest HIV manifestations can occur only 50-70% of the infected individuals and not with all, that too, these symptoms can occur only after 3-4 weeks and not earlier. So the symptoms of fever. Body pain and tiredness occurring to you 3 days after the contact, have nothing to do with HIV. Such symptoms can occur to anybody without HIV, that too, following a close intimacy with some body who has a throat infection or a cold.
Regarding your tests , those (4th generation DUO CMIA) done after 4 weeks after the high risk contact, clearly ruled out the possibility of HIV 1 infection. The antigen part is conclusive after 4 weeks (even though antigen can be detected from the first week on wards). Antibody part of the test can be reliable only after 8-12 weeks (after the window period) including the western Blot test.
You need not bother about the values of the test reading. It is enough that the reading is below the 'cut off' value for that test indicated by the manufacturer of the product. There is nothing like strong negative or borderline negative etc.
HIV 1 infections prevalence is little above 99% whereas HIV 2 is less than 1%.
So you need not worry about that For your symptom follow the advice of your physician.

Your symptoms were clearly not due to HIV.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
As your doctor told the symptoms were not related to HIV disease.
Regarding the test, it is better to have the final test after 12 weeks instead of 8 weeks as there is no possibility of sero- conversion after that period. As your test ruled out totally the possibility of HIV 1 infection, the chances of HIV due to that contact is almost nil to the extent of 99.5%.
So you need not worry much about the result of the future test.
