Question: Dear Doctor

I had a case of diarrhea then constipation, indigestion and possibly dehydration.

Yesterday i suffered chills and back aches.

I felt that it could be food poisoning.

Today morning i felt alot better but my urine this morning is dark orange and i am worried that it might be kidney related.

I was wondering, should i still be converned if the food poisoning symptoms go away and my subsequent urine are normal color?

Infection in the body can lead to involvement of the kidney as well more so in cases of diarrhea followed by dehydration. Usually concentrated urine will be orange in color and it is often associated with a strong odor.

Here is what you should do

1. Drink plenty of fluids. You must drink upto 3 litres of water per day
2. See for change in the colour of your urine
3. A close differential for orange coloured urine is blood in urine, if the colour of urine remains orange or you intermittently see change of colour of urine then please get a urine routine done

You need not be concerned if the colour of the urine returns to normal after hydration
