Is Organ Or Blood Donation Favourable At The Age Of 75?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Nov 2015
Question: I would like to donate a kidney to my son who needs one. I am aged 75 but in excellent health - I still retain an airline transport pilots licence with a class 1 medical. No one has bothered to examine me, I am just told I am too old. The only other donor offering is my daughter but she has kids and associated responsibilities and I don't want her to have to do it. Am I really past it or is the age thing just an arbitrary number plucked out of the ether?

Brief Answer:
I can understand your concern for your son

Detailed Answer:
hello
Thanks for query .

Your son has advanced Chronic Paranchymal Renal Disease and have been advised renal transplant.

You are 75 years old and is in good physical condition with no illness and very anxious to donate yoyr kidney to your son but has been refused on the grounds of ageing .

As per international protocol the organ which is being transplanted should have future life of 20 -25 years .Looking at your age of 75 years it will be futile exercise to donate your kidney to your son .That is the prime reason for refusing donors above the age of 60 years old .

You can search out other young related donor for betterment of your son.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
