Is Penis Size Genetically Determined?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Apr 2014
Question: Hello I would like to know why all the doctors are frequently saying that penis size is genetically determined. So far my knowledge is concern Talking about effect of genetics on penis size, there are certain genes like homeobox (Hox a and d) genes which may have a role in regulating penis size. There is also In humans, the AR gene located on the X chromosome at Xq11-12 which may determine the penis size and as i know that x chromosome is always dominated by mother side hence it proved that penis size usually comes from mother side. Can u tell me why the two sibling don't have the same penis size it is so because we can't inherit same set of genes each time and the genetic effect is so complex that yet to understood and there are so many thing in medicine and science which we don't know. Why doctors are frequently saying that size does not matter how this proved who said that size doesn't matter as i know most nerve ending are found only one third of the vagina it is according to science and science does not reflect real world situation. Penis size can be increase through a surgery that is phalloplasty but Indians doctors rarely prescribing this why penis size cant be increased after puberty .Please Do clarify my doubts Thank You

Brief Answer: Growth is multifactoral Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic This is an interesting question. I will try and cut through the genetics and the obvious stuff and start with something i am sure you are aware of. When it comes to ones actual PHYLOTYPE (the actual physical manifestation of a person), there are many factors at play, one of which is our GENOTYPE (the mixture of genes inherited from our parents). There are many other factors at play here as well, including hormonal exposure, age weight and random mutation. When doctors say that Penis size is genetically determined, they are basically oversimplifying the issue (when you look at large populations, you have to control for other factors, like hormonal issues and general nutrition otherwise the results will be useless). So, why would two siblings have different sizes? Depends on which genes they inherited from mom and dad. It also depends on who is more physically active (the fatter you are in childhood, the smaller it will be at adulthood) and how much extra weight you have on you and around the abdomen (the shaft of the penis gets buried in abdominal fat, so weight loss around the abdomen automatically makes the organ longer). It also depends on a host of other issues (was one sibling exposed to alot of estrogen like chemicals in the preservative and antibiotics of the the meat that they eat, does one of them have thyroid or sugar issues, have they eaten a healthy high protein diet). So all in all. Genetics is certainly one factor but not the only one. As far as penile implants and lengthening go. There are cosmetic devices that can be implanted for men, but i am not aware of any surgeon currently doing this in India. Why they don't is probably that there is not much of a market for the surgery and the liability is enormous. As far as size not mattering. i think you need to understand that your sexual relationship with a woman is more complicated than the basic issue of friction and size. Women achieve orgasm through higher hormonal levels which are determined less by physical stimulation and more by emotional closeness to their partner. So if you are worried about your partners enjoyment of the experience. A close and intimate relationship, trust and true enjoyment of each others company will go much further in her achievement of the orgasm. Size doesn't matter to most of the women that i have spoken to and the women who it did matter so much for where not women that I could enjoy the company of. Don't let your manhood get wrapped up in one single organ on your body. There is much more to being a man than just that. Ok. I will stop now before I get any more preachy. I hope this helps. Hello Again What do u mean by that Size doesn't matter to most of the women that i have spoken to and the women who it did matter so much for where not women that I could enjoy the company of.Do clarify . I beg to differ you with some point here genetic play an important factor almost 80 % of the penis size determined by genetic factor no matter ho much good diet we have had we cant change the genetic programming an environmental factor may have play a role but not completely and talking about hormones Deficiency of pituitary growth hormone and/or gonadotropins, mild degrees of androgen insensitivity can cause small penis size in males and is treated with can be addressed with growth hormone or testosterone treatment in early childhood not to have micropenis but we cant changed the size beyond the which is genetically programmed .No food or protein diet or exercise can increase beyond genetically programmed genetic played an important factor almost 80% of human body skin colour, height so on that will be decided by genetics. Now talking about girl doesn't care penis size but now a days porn play an important factor how did u say it confidently that girls do not think of penis size. Give the details of which gene responsible for determining penis size it comes from which side from mother side or father side can we able to locate that genes where it is situated ?

Brief Answer: 80%? Who told you that? Porn? Tell her to grow up! Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX maybe you should know a little bit more about me before I can answer your questions effectively. I am a 32 year old guy. I am getting married in 6 months time. I have lived in 2 different countries other than India (The US and the UK) and I have dated many women from all 3 of these countries with many different backgrounds. Now, in my experience, and also in the experience of most professional gynecologists that deal with women sexual health issues, women have more than 1 erogenous zone, they are stimulated from many different parts of the body and without an emotional connection (ie without being 'in the mood') to their partner, no matter what the mans size or prowess, she will not achieve orgasm. I disagree with your 80% thing. I've discussed it with andrologists and geneticists (this is not the first time i am hearing this question, and i have pondered it myself in the past). May I know the source of your information saying 80%? As far as porn. Again, from personal experience as well as in study after study, it has been shown that porn has nothing to do with real life. If there is some silly girl out there who is watching porn and expecting that that's the way normal people have sex, she is not mature enough for a relationship and she is not worth your time. Get that nonsense out of your head. Porn is only useful for arousal at best. Nothing more. Also, the majority of studies show that women are not as interested in porn as men are. Most of the time its men who mistake what they see in pornography as real life. All in all, Relax Chief. Relationships between men and women are more important than the specifics of size and girth. Find a person who you have an emotional connection with and you will see that whats going on 'down there' is much less important as whats going on in your heart. Vinay

Hello Sir i completely agreed with you thanks for giving such valuable information. But i don't agree with you in some point that penis size determined by genetically diet and physical activity may have played a little role but not completely one cant have to have larger size of penis if his genes inherit from the smaller size of the penis of his family. you disagree with my point of 80% so basically u are saying if a person taken good diet and do physical activity in puberty then he will gain the large size of penis here u are denying the role of genetics am i right i am very sorry to say that all most all men have born with proper functioning penis very rare occasion certain hormones like gonadotropins and androgen deficiency can cause micro penis but that are very rare case the most important thing is genetics.

Brief Answer: disagreeing with the 80%, not that genes are imp Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Try to understand. I do not deny that genes play a role in a host of growth issues. But i do strongly disagree with the 80%. Like i said. if you can give me the source of that statistic i can go over the research myself and either learn something new or debunk the research. So help me out here chief. Vin

Hello Sir So please do give the details about genes which determine penis size ? If u disagree my point then please do clarify how much % genes effect the penis size? how many cases have u seen of micro penis due to hormonal deficiency or improper nutrition as i know it is very rare If u thinking that genes doesn't influence the penis size every body in puberty take growth hormones or testosterone supplement and increase their penis size why these thing not possible ? The Study of genetics is so complex do u think even a geneticist know everything about genes i mean what they supposed to give genuine answer there so many things in medicine and science which we and doctors don't know. You have mentioned in earlier reply that we can inherit genes from both father mother it is true but here i am talking about penis regulating genes and as per science homeobox (Hox a and d) and AR genes which is located on X chromosome at Xq11-12 as per science x chromosome is always passes by mother in so how can told that penis size always comes from both father mother i dont agree on this point there other genes which may have come from both parents but not in the case of penis as i know.

Brief Answer: I cannot give you a percentage Detailed Answer: Hello again XXXXXXX I'm sorry for my delay in replying to your question. I needed to do a bit of research and talk to a few of my colleagues in the fields of Urology, Andrology and Genetics. Firstly, the interactions between environment and genes in an individual are incredibly complex and have not been mapped out completely yet. So there is no way I can give you a number that I can stand by and/or quote with any confidence. As for the HOX gene complex. You do realize that animals that don't even HAVE a mammilian penis.. have HOX genes right? These are ANCIENT genes that help in aligning protein complexes with the lines of magnetic force on the planet and allow the developing embryo to develop along preprogrammed lines. The HOX complex interacts with SOO MANY different genes to help in the development of every single structure in and on the human body. So the HOX complex is important, but I can't say it is the most important determinant. In my opinion, your testosterone levels are probably more important in determining penis size. That to, the testosterone levels at ages 8 through 21 are probably more important than at later ages. Testosterone levels are definitely partly determined by genes, but they are also determined by protein levels in your blood, your vitamin levels and your exposure to artificial estrogens found in hormonally enhanced animal products and some packaged foods. They also are affected by bacterial growth in the colon The basic idea I am trying to get across to you is that THERE ARE TOO MANY determinants to take into account now and we do not know how they all interact. So I can't give you a number. As I have said before. Don't let t get to you, there is more to REAL life than penis size and if you ever get into a relationship where you are being made to feel inadequate.. it is NOT a real relationship. Take Care, Vinay

Hello Sir Here i am not talking about any relationship i would like to figure how genetics effect the penis size? Now talking about the hormones which you are strongly emphasized so let me tell u something that how can someone have normal testosterone level if his AR genes receptor not permitting as per my knowledge is concern AR genes is a type of nuclear receptor that is activated by binding of either of the androgenic hormones testosterone or dihydrotestosterone now tell me where does this gene come from ? I do strongly agree with u about hormones Deficiency of pituitary growth hormone and/or gonadotropins, mild degrees of androgen insensitivity can cause small penis size in males but mostly these thing tends to happened if he has any defect of DNA of AR genes and some how environmental factor but it is very rare as i know.

Brief Answer: AR genes Detailed Answer: The AR genes are on Xq12 (long arm of chr 12) and when they are mutated, the last thing the patient will be worried about is penis size. Spinal atrophy and muscular issues would render the patient crippled. If the patient has none of these stigmata, then I would say that they are normal and that patients ability to react to androgens is normal. AR genes are somatic genes, therefore there will be crossover from mom and dad both. There is no way of knowing exactly how much you inherited from either parent because after cross over, there is a bit of random mutation that occurs as well. there is an interesting service called '23andme' which will allow you to get a genetic profile done on yourself if you are interested. But even getting that done would not be able to really tell you what you want to know. In the end, I would say that genetics, along with everything else we have discussed have a role to play in the development and sizing of the male organ. I just do not believe that the number is as high as 80%. Like I said before, if you can send me the source data from which you got that number I will go through it and we can discuss it together. Anything else I can help you with?
