Is Persistent Rash Indicative Of Allergy?
Question: Hello, my 2.5 year old daughter has had a rash come and go for the past few weeks. She did have a cold followed by a chest cough which was when the rash started. Her cold is gone and the cough is much better but the rash persists, especially when she takes bath. Before and After the bath the symptoms subside but many areas of redness and dry patches remain. It seems that hot water could be irritating her skin. The bath soap we use is called California Baby and have used it since she was born and have not seen signs of irritation from the soap. But perhaps she has developed an allergy to the soap. Anyway, the best info i can give you is pictures of her right after the bath, and then pictures about 30 minutes after the bath with the rash subsiding. Also please note the red mark on her butt is a birth mark, not concern/part of my question
Brief Answer:
Regarding rash and red patch on the buttock
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
She seems to have cholinergic urticaria. It is a type of urticaria which happens due to a change in core body temperature e.g during a hot shower or after exercise.
I'd suggest you give her an oral antihistamine e.g a teaspoon (5 ml) of Cetrizine 5mg/5ml syrup once every evening for a few days.
The red patch on her buttock is most likely a Port Wine Stain (PWS). It is a birthmark. It is due to congenital dilated /ectatic capillaries in the dermis.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
