Postinor 2 is a post-coital contraception pill which is to be taken ideally within 24 hours but not later than 72 hours of the unprotected sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy.

In fact, woman releases her egg only once during a menstrual cycle and that day is 14 days prior to next period. An egg has a life of 24 hours while the sperms are active for 72 hours. Hence a period of about one week around the day of egg release is a fertile window. Unprotected intercourse during this period is more likely to result in pregnancy. How many days cycle you have?

You had your intercourse during menstruation. During this phase of the menstrual cycle, there is no egg present for fertilization. So there is no possibility of any pregnancy by the intercourse during bleeding phase of the menstruation. Hence, there was no necessity of taking Postinor 2 after this intercourse.

Postinor is a hormonal medicine containing 1.5 mg of Levonorgestrel, which is a Progestational medicine. Progestational medicines do minimise or stop the bleeding from the uterus. Hence, your menstruation ceased. Now after 4-7 days later, you will have withdrawal bleeding which would be just like your normal menses.

So you need not be worried about the possibility of pregnancy. However, I would warn you about your practice of sexual intercourse. For the practical purposes, you can have intercourse, however you are not sure whether it is in your fertile period or not. So after intercourse, you will have again to rely on Postinor 2. If this is before you get withdrawal bleeding, again your menses may get delayed giving you more stress.

If you can hold on with the sexual libido for few days more, I would advise you to wait till you get your menses. Have the sex only after the bleeding stops. This bleeding would not be more than 4-5 days. So in all you may have to observe sexual abstinence for about 10-12 days or so. If you cannot stay without the sexual activity this long, then better use 'correctly' condom during the intercourse. Do not ignore to expel the air from the tit of the condom before wearing it.

My sincere advice to you is that to avoid such stressful situations, please adapt some regular reliable contraceptive method like condom, oral contraceptive pills or intrauterine device. If you get intrauterine device fitted immediately after you get withdrawal bleeding, it will give you ongoing protection from the pregnancy for years to come without any stress. 3. Condom is a good barrier method of contraception provided it is used 'correctly'. NACO has explained on its website the correct method of using condom. Since you have decided to switchover to condom for this month, it is not mandatory for you still to use oral pills; however, starting them now would prepare for the next months pills. Of course it not mandatory if you start the oral contraceptive pills from the day 2 of next menstrual cycle.
