Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Plan B After Intercourse?

Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: Hi there, I am a 24yr old girl. I did it with my boyfriend once on August 15th without a condom but the next day we did it again with a condom and to avoid any confusion I took Plan B within half an hour of having sex. I got my period on the 17th which was supposed to be my 1st day pf period. And between Sept 8th to 9th I had slight bleeding which only occured when I wiped after urinating. Today is 28th and I already a week late and that is scaring the hell out of me that I am pregnant. Please help me and also my cycle always varies between 32 to 33 days.

Brief Answer:
It is unlikely that you are pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

Plan B is about 95% effective in protecting against pregnancy. After that you did get your period on 17th. So it is unlikely that you are pregnant. I am of the opinion that your period is delayed due to delayed ovulation this month and this is normal.

However there is a very small possibility of implantation bleeding ( period on 17th) due to pregnancy. So I suggest that you get a pregnancy test done to be relieved of this tension. I expect it to be negative.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

Brief Answer:
The spotting on 8th and 9th Sept could be due to ovulation.

Detailed Answer:

Welcome back.

The spotting on 8th and 9th Sept could be due to ovulation.
A slim chance that it could be due to pregnancy. Hence I suggest that you get a pregnancy test done.
