Is Pulmonary Hyper-aeration Indicative Of Emphysema?
Question: I am having medication for asthma since Thursday pm March 1, 2018 which includes using the nebulizer every 6 hrs. This is my first use of such machine. This afternoon, I had an x-ray which shows a pulmonary hyper-aeration among others.Could this x-ray mean I have emphysema.? Both my parents had emphysema before they died.
Brief Answer:
Better to get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Emphysema is functional term. It is diagnosed only if PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) is showing obstructive defect.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done a clinical examination of the respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
If PFT is showing obstructive defect then it is possible that you are having emphysema.
Please let me know if you have already undergone PFT.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you, I haven't heard about a pulmonary function test. I will ask the XXXX Diagnostics Center if they have such test. Meanwhile, I still have to get my sputum analysis tomorrow noon. Thank you!
