Is Recurring Syphilis A Symptom Of Arthritis?
Question: Hello I was diagnosed with Syphilis about two months ago. I received a penicillin shot weekly 3 times. This was back in March. I noticed in the last few days I've been getting muscle spasms. It is really scary and annoying. I remember one night I had the entire back of my leg muscle had a muscle spasm. Is this normal after the shot? Also, I noticed sometimes when I wake up in the morning my toes feels like I'm having arthritis or something. It hurts for a while and goes away.
Brief Answer:
Please, get your calcium and magnesium levels measured!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these spams. Most common cause is low calcium and magnesium level. This is not caused by penicillin injections as this is not a common side effect. For this reasons, I will encourage you to get your blood levels measured and addressed accordingly. Also, it is necessary to add regular physical exercise, increased fruits and fluids consumption. These together will help relax muscles and improve on these symptoms.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I read dozens of articles online and it says muscle spasms is a common side effect. I am a healthy person and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Ive NEVER had muscle spasms in my life ever since getting the shot. Also, I noticed my lips could be seen twitching. It is really weird. Keep in mind, I had 3 shots of penicillin on a weekly basis. I guess my question is. Is this the penicillin working it's course. How long does these symptoms last?
Brief Answer:
Muscle spasm is not a common side effect of penicillin.

Brief Answer:
THanks!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have reviewed the link and for true this is mentioned as a side effect. With this information, I will advise that we take a watchful approach as most side effects should normally subside spontaneously as soon as the treatment is stopped. This is certainly not life threatening and I will rather want to by systematic and gentle and not going all all aggressive to further investigate at this time unless something else comes up.
I wish you well.
THanks!
