Is Reduced Dosage Of Insulin A Cause For Concern?

Question: Hi am in Australia and recently changed to insulin for my type II about to go to bed and accidently took 8 units of novarapid instead of the 12 of lantus. Have had some toast n juice but not sure what else to do. BSL was 9.8 prior less than 2 hous post dinner any advice?
have taken 10 of lantus instead of 12 and BSL an hour and a half later
have taken 10 of lantus instead of 12 and BSL an hour and a half later
Brief Answer:
Do nothing else!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this mistake in administering your drug. For now, do nothing else. Go to bed calmly and wake up tomorrow. Continue the insulin as scheduled. A mistake of 2 units isn’t going to harm you be it now or in the long run. I should have been concerned if you took too much and not a little less than the recommended.
In all, all is fine and there is no need to get further disturbed by this.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
I will say yes!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The concern here is that novorapid will not cover all through the night like lantus does. However, I will not want you to take any more insulin at this time because it can lead to low sugars which is more concerning. I will rather recommend you simply monitor your sugars, take no more insulin at this time and resume the regular schedules tomorrow. It is better to be safe than sorry and that’s exactly what am doing at this point.
Monitor your sugars, make sure they are not falling rapidly and only seek further help if the sugar drops rapidly. In case it does, please get some juice, food or sugar immediately.
Let me know if this helps.
