Is Removal Of Kidney When Its Functioning At 7% Necessary For A Child?
My two years old male baby having kidney problem due to urine reverse to left kidney (grade 4 vesicouretric refleux left side) and kidney function 7% and size also small as per DMSA Report. We discussed the doctor, he advised to remove that kidney. Please advise whether kidney remove or not, and guide us to rectify this problem.

Better to remove small kidney
Detailed Answer:
Hi....greetings from XXXXXXX With only 7% function remaining, I suggest you to go ahead with the resection of the kidney which is smaller. If you do not go ahead with removal it might cause high blood pressure which might be deleterious to other organ systems of the body.
Your doctor was right in suggesting you to go ahead with removal of the smaller kidney which is having only 7% function.
As there is a grade 4 reflux on the left the finction is going to go even lesser. Hope the kid is not having high blood pressure already.
I would also like to know if there is any reflux on the right side too... Because it will warrant antibiotics on a regular basis.
