default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jan 2017
Question: Sir, Good Evening.

My Mother-in-law is advised to CABG due to triple vessel blockage. She is a diabetic and with no blood pressure complaint. My query is about serum creatinine which is showing abnormal change with in 7 days of interval. On 3/12/2016 it is about 0.7 mg/dl and on 08/12/2016 it is showing 1.5 mg/dl. My question is why sudden change and what medication is needed to bring back serum creatinine to normal. Is this a constraint/concern for CABG surgery which is planned to happen in next 2 days. Please suggest us. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
High creatinine is a marker of kidney dysfunction

Detailed Answer:

Rise in creatinine is marker of kidney dysfunction. causes of this dysfunction can be

1. prerenal. like in dehydration or low blood pressure.

2 renal artery stenosis with high blood pressure.

3. acute tubular necrosis or interstitial nephritis due to infections or medications.

so to narrow down the cause and to treat it you should meet your Nephrologist for a detailed evaluation especially for urine report and ultrasound of the kidneys

in patients who are to undergo bypass it is a very important concern as the patients with higher creatinine have a high risk for developing renal failure after operation. but in any case the operation should be done as saving the heart is more important in this situation.

best wishes.
