Brief Answer:
Persistently low sodium can lead to serious problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The normal sodium level in blood is to be maintained between 130 and 145 milliequivalents per liter (mEq/L) and many health authorities recommend 135 as the lower limit.

2. There are a lot of functions carried out by sodium ions in our body. It helps mainly to in regulating amount of water in the cells. Low sodium level will cause more entry of water inside and outside the cells and then this will disrupt normal functioning.

3. The consequences of low sodium can be the following
(i) headaches
(ii) irritability
(iii) nausea and confusion
(iv) weakness and fatigue
(v) seizures and coma

4. If your sodium level is 130 mEq/L then please talk to your doctor and take measure to avoid sodium loss. A high sodium diet is recommended till such time that your sodium levels are consistently above 135 to 140 mEq/L.

5. Sodium level below 125 mEq/L requires hospital consultation and slow correction to avoid serious problems. Please talk to your doctor immediately.

Hope your query is answered.
