Is Severe PMS Cramping Indicative Of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Apr 2023
Question: Hello,
I have had severe pms cramping for years and it has gotten to the point where it is unbearable. I had an abortion at 16 and thats when it seemed to start. My mom had the same pain and eventually got surgery to fix it but I am wanting to have a kid before doing so. I am wondering if I have dysmenorrhea or something else. It has gotten to the point where on my first day of menstrual cycle I am having to stay home from work due to pain. Also, my boyfriend and I have been TTC for about 4 months and wondering if this has something to do with why it hasn't happened yet.

Brief Answer:

Some more information to help you out in a better way.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

First of all, do not panic.

In my opinion, your symptoms can be due to PID - Pelvic inflammatory disease, causing you secondary dysmenorrhoea.

I will suggest you get gynecology checkup done including per speculum and per vaginal examination.

This will help to know about PID, pelvic infection or inflammation and to rule out cervical erosion or polyp.

Also, get USG done to know about any structural pathology like fibroids or polyps of the uterus as a cause of your symptoms.

I would like to know some more details.
Have you got USG done recently?

Have you taken any treatment for your symptoms before?
Were you diagnosed or treated for PAID before?

If you are planning to get pregnant, are you taking any preconception vitamins?

Have you and your partner done USG, tubal patency and seminal fluid examination done?

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
