Brief Answer:
Needs work up and management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Allopurinol on itself does not cause shortness of breath and at age 77 this sign should be thoroughly assessed for any heart or lung abnormality which may be flared by allopurinol. I would like you to visit a doctor, let them do an ekg and heart echocardiogram, assess pulmonary functions and see what is causing this shortness of breath spells. Management will be decided accordingly.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
