Brief Answer: Avoid silica supplements Detailed Answer: Hi and thanks for the query, Considering your past medical history with a reduced kidney function, I would suggest you avoid silica as much as possible. Most clinical reports and studies report a very strong correlation between chronic kidney disease and silica exposure. Considering the fact that your kidney function is already reduced, it would be important to be very prudent with the drugs one takes. It is true that most of these supplements would be considered natural. However, it is not rare that we fine very high levels of specific substances in these supplements. Most do not have appropriate characterization of their components. Other body structures like the gastrointestinal tract and the pancreas are also touched minimally with silica consumption. In your case, of interest in your case, the kidney is very much attained, for it plays a main role in its re absorption and metabolism. I strongly suggest avoidance of such products and sticking strictly to the recommendations of your treating nephrologist. Thanks and kind regards. Please, do feel free asking follow up questions in case you got any specific concerns. Would be glad making my humble contributions. Kind regards. Dr Bain
