Is Skin Tightening In Toes And Feet Associated With Acid Reflux?
Question: A skin doctor, dermotologist, noticed that the skin on my foot, specifically toes, was very tight.
She pinched (tried to gather) my sin on my toes and asked me if I had trouble swallowing. I said no. But I
do have a slight swallowing issue that I was told was due to acid reflux. I take a omreprazole and
the swallowing thing seems so minor now. So, whats the connection between tight skin at the toes & feet
and swallowing? I cannot reach the doctor and I am concerned,

Brief Answer:
Doctor wants to screen for Scleroderma
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.
I understand your concern.
You doctor is probably checking for a condition known as Scleroderma.
This condition is an autoimmune connective tissue disorder.
This condition causes skin tightening.
It will also probably cause esophageal dysmotility leading to acid reflux and dysphagia(difficulty in swallowing).
In case of any doubt, I advise you to go for confirmatory tests to rule out Scleroderma.
The best test is Anti TOPOISOMERASE-1(Scl 70) antibodies and Upper GIT endoscopy to evaluate the esophagus.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
