Is Slightly High Blood Sugar Levels During Pregnancy A Cause For Concern?

Question: Hi, my wife is pregnant (37 weeks). As per the advise of our gynecologist, we took a bood test on 13.06.2014 and found her sugar levels as below ;
-Fasting = 80 (as per the lab, this is considered normal )
-PP (After 1 hours ) = 145 (as per the lab, the range should < 140 mg/dl )
-Haemoglobin =10.9 (as per the lab , it should be 12 - 15 gm%)
When we visited our doctor for our routine check up, she said she wants to get the readings below 140 and and have asked us to repeat the blood test again this Friday, 27.06.14.
Due to this, my wife has restricted her diet intake to wheat breads, egg (1 number a day) and milk (1 litre a day). She walks every day for 30 mins.
I am worried about the lack of proper diet on the babys growth. Also, is the sugar readings at 145 a cause for concern for the mother or the baby. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Please DO NOT restrict diet. It affects the baby.
If she has high sugar she can be started on insulin but a single report of 145 is not at all high to restrict diet or start insulin.
Walking for 30 mins is good but eat full meal.
A 145 reading is of NO concern but not eating well will harm your baby.

Thank you doc for the reply.
She has been having all 3 meals in addition to one litre of milk every day. She has replaced rice with whole wheat breads as per the advise of our doctor to keep the sugar levels under check.
Since yesterday she has fever and cold. What medicines can she take ? Is it safe to tAke medicines now ?

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXX,
She can take paracetamol tablets, haldicuff cough syrup. They are very safe.
Take antibiotics ONLY if fever and cold have NOT resolved in 5 days as then she needs antibiotics & it is also safe at 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Regards.
