Posted on Mon, 3 Apr 2017
Question: I have a biochemical Anxiety Disorder. A couple of years ago my thyroid crashed, hypo, and I have only been able to take just so much thyroxine, now on Armour, without getting too wired, so, still tired, sore and weak. I also smoke. Can all of these things work against each other?

Brief Answer:
Smoking is known to reduce TSH levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. Currently you're taking Armour thyroid. Smoking is known to reduce TSH levels and this can mask hypothyroidism. Even on armour thyroid you are having symptoms like weakness, tiredness, soreness etc. These symptoms could be occurring due to improper thyroid levels and I'd advise you to get thyroid hormone levels done. If the levels come deranged ask for dose changes. Reducing the smoking will also help you.

So please talk to your doctor regarding that.

Thanks and Take care.
