Is Stopping Galvus Met Cold Turkey Advisable?
Question: I'm 60 y.o. and a type 2 diabetic patient since 2005. Kept sugar level under control by exercise and taking Zoryl 1 mg (morning 1 tab) and Galvus Met 50+500 since then. Right now my blood sugar level F/PP is 92/108. Have hypertension, controlled by Olmesar 20 mg 1 tab daily. Current BP is 130/80. Those results are received during my annual health check-up 2 days ago.
Have recently got fatty liver (last 1 year) and little enlargement. The doctor at the clinic told me to stop taking Galvus Met (for the liver condition) and continue the zoryl 1 mg and review with him after 2 months. My question is, is it ok to stop Galvus Met abruptly and in case my sugar level increases, whether Galvus Met can be taken again after 2 months. Or the doctor is likely to put me on insulin? Could not ask this question to the doctor as he was in hurry, so just asking for making an idea.

Brief Answer:
It will depend upon Level of Liver Enzymes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
Tab Galvus Met contains Metaformin & Vildagliptin.
There might be possibility of significantly elevated liver enzymes (Liver Function Test) along with fatty liver that's why your doctor must have stopped Tab Galvus Met.
During this period if blood sugar levels are high use of insulin may be suggested.
Depending upon cause of liver enlargement & deranged liver function one can decide regarding restarting Tab Galvus Met.
If liver enzymes come back to normal there is likely possibility of restarting Tab Galvus Met.
Hope this may help you to clarify your doubts.
