Is Surgery Necessary For A Torn Tendon To Resume A Normal Life?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Oct 2017
Question: I was recently diagnosed with a torn tendon (rupture of the distal anterior tibialis tendom with retraction to the level of the tibiotalar joint) in my left ankle. An orthopedic surgeon has recommended surgery. I live alone, 71 years old, and I'd like to know: Is it possible to live normal without Surgery? Which problems with my ankle and foot would be in future?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Surgery is most advised!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. Surgery is the surest way to ensure faster healing without much sequellae. Without surgery, you may never recover from pain and be able to use this joint fully. I will strongly recommend that you take on surgery.

However, depending on the severity, resting and splitting might eventually lead to healing. Unfortunately, the results are less stellar and may never be complete. Surgery ensures that the ruptures ends are all stitched end to end which guarantees healing and regaining functionality.

I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
