yes, you may switch from pepcid to OTC PPI (pantoprazole or esomeprazole). use the PPI for at least one month or as advised by treating physician.
Secondly,upper GI endoscopy is highly recommended in your case.
endosocpy is usually indicated if patient :
age is>55
and/or patient presents with any one or more of following:
anemia
weight loss
melena (black stool) or blood vomiting
furthermore; diet modification is advised.
1. low fat diet
2. add plain yogurt to meals
3. less salt intake
4. avoid alcohol and junk food
5. eat dinner at least 2 to 3 hours before going to bed
