Is Taking Mifepristone And Misoprostol Sufficient To Induce An Abortion?

Question: My wife aged 38, her last menstruation date was 12-03-2014, Today I have checked it was possitive Due to some problems we are decided to miscarriage Just 40 days past, Today I have taken tablets of mifepristone & misoprostol tablets (Mankind pharma) Can you suggest shall I go with and also suggest any vitamin tablets along with the tablets. Is it safe to use the tablets ? Please help me. Thanks XXXX

Brief Answer: It is safe to use Detailed Answer: Dear XXXX, Sorry for the delay as i was busy with patients. No vitamins is needed if you have decided for miscarriage. Mifepristone 1 tablet and misoprostol 4 tablets (200 mg Each ) is sufficient for miscarriage. They are both safe. However I insist that you take these tablets under a gynecologist care. The doctor should watch for excessive bleeding or absence of bleeding and take appropriate actions accordingly. She will have lot of pain and bleeding for 3-4 days. Make sure she drinks and eats well. Also make her rest and do not let her go outside house once pain and bleeding starts. Also to be on safe side get a sonography done 3 days after she has stopped bleeding to ensure complete miscarriage and nothing is left behind. Regards. Dr. Som Biswas MD
