Is The Fragile X Syndrome Be Inherited From The Mother?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: My nephew, I believe, has Fragile X. His mother refuses to be carrier tested. Would it be safe to assume that the maternal grandmother would also be a carrier? And, would it be 100% that she would be a carrier, if indeed her grandson does have Fragile X? XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

I realized I left a word out. His only diagnosis after all these years is attachment issues with his mother

Brief Answer:
Mother and father both can inherit disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Fragile X syndrome many a time through mother, gene will be inherited. but in case of permuted variety of disease, though father's are carrier of gene may not show symptoms of disease. Father can also inherit disease to child.
So better to confirm type of mutation in child first.

Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query.

Wish you a good health.

Regards
