Is There A Chemical That Will Not Cause Depression During General Anesthetic?

Question: Is there a chemical that will not cause depression during general anesthetic?.
I have had foot surgery, carpel tunnel surgery, colonoscopy, and a lung biopsy
without sedation. Just locals. Piece of cake! But every time I have general anesthetic,
I deal with deep depression for months. Now I have neuroendocrine carcinoid lung
cancer <2cm. The doctors act like they are deaf when I tell them I DO NOT want to struggle
with depression again.

Brief Answer:
its a myth
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is an ill found myth. There are no drugs or chemicals that cause long term depression. The drugs that are used are rather used in treatin depression for short term.
I understand you had few depressive symptoms after previous surgical treatment. Perhaps there may be other factors involved. You shouldn't ignore those factors again. Try discussing with a psychiatrist to help you unearth those factors.
As far as anaesthesia is concerned, I am very, very confident that it doesn't cause long term depression.

All due respects, Sir, but you are wrong about anesthesia not causing depression. Some patients have no problems at all. Than there are others
in whom it creates big problems.
I have had general anesthesia a few times to know it causes a problem
for my body/mind situation. And YES I have seen a psychologist! I do hope
the medical professionals will do more research on post-op depression, and
stop blaming the patient.
Don't believe everything the medical schools tell you.
Sincerely
