Is There A Connection Between Diarrhea And High ALP Level?

Question: dear doctors : I had a severe diharrea during 5 days...during this period my dotor ask me to make some blood analysis ......all the results where normal but only one liver enzyme was higher than the normal levels...alkaline phosphatase 233. all the other liver enzymes were normal...my question is : is there a connection between diharrea and high level of ALP ? thank u
Brief Answer:
No.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As such loose stools have nothing to do with only one single liver enzyme elevation. Minimum of two enzymes should be raised at least twice the normal level. Very likely you were having viral gastroenteritis which is a infection of intestine.
I would suggest you to go for an ultrasound abdomen and stool routine and microscopic test to look for condition related to infection or fatty liver. Secondly, it could be related to some bone disease so an orthopedist should be consulted if liver is normal.
I hope I was helpful.

Inflammation in bowel gastroenteritis is the very likely cause of sudden elevation. It would settle down in a week or so.

I forgot to tell u...in aroutine blood test 3 weeks ago my ALP was very normal / what can cause a such sudden rise in my ALP levels....?
Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Though not asked yet, stool analysis and culture are required to confirm the diagnosis(enteritis). Management is with antibiotics (usually a combination of Ciprofloxacin and Metronidazole) for which you will need a prescription. So please be advised to follow up with the urgent care.
Meanwhile, drink plenty of water and electrolyte containing drinks like Gatorade. Follow soft diet. BRAT (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) diet will be easier on your tummy.
You can also take loperamide (OTC) for loose stools.
Hope this answers your query. Please let me know if you need further clarification. Suggestions for betterment are welcome.
