Question: Thank You Doctors in advance. Your past advice/information has been very helpful. I'm back with my same problem(please check my past questions)...MICROSCOPIC COLITIS (MC). Colestyramine didn't help. I been on 2.4 grams /day dose of Mesalamine(1.2 two times a day) for 2 weeks. NO improvement(maybe worse). I'm thinking I should go back on Budesonide which really improved my MC condition. Would appreciate your advice & opinion(& dosage). Thanks ! PS: Is there a generic for Budesonide ?

Brief Answer:
Microscopic Colitis/ Budesonide

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern..

Budesonide is available as Entocort EC and UCERIS.

If antidiarrheal loperamide, bile acid sequestrants, Bismuth Subsalicylate and Mesalamine didn't lead to any improvement then Budesonide can be taken in consultation with your doctor.

I would prefer a per rectal preparation/enema for remission if there is an acute flare. Prednisolone can also be used.

Steroid-sparing immune suppressants like Azathioprine or Methotrexate are reserved for patients that don't respond to steroids or have acute flares and relapses while stopping or tapering off the steroids.

Wishing you the best of health.

Thanks
