Is there any other medication, prescription or herbal, over the counter other than ativan that is not habit forming for generalized anxiety?
Hello,
As far as medications for anxiety are concerned, almost all of them have some or other side effects with additional problem of addiction and ultimately not able to leave the medicines.
These medicines are definitely very effective but they don't bring the cure to you. They provide you the temporary relief only without taking care of underlying cause.
The moment you stop them, you get a severe rebound of your symptoms.
On the other hand non medical methods take long time to treat but they are not associated with any side effects.
These non medical methods are...
Regular aerobic exercises, which release endorphins which act against anxiety and stress.
Deep breathing exercises
Yoga
Meditation
Cognitive behaviour therapy under the guidance of a therapist
Avoiding smoking,alcohol,drugs,sweets,colas,junk foods.
avoiding coffee and tea.
Eating fresh fruits, green vegetables and nuts
Taking supplements like B complex vitamins, fish oils etc.
Consuming green tea which has theanine in it which helps in soothing your nerves.
Age old herbal cures like valerian and lemon balm may be tried.
Thanks
