Is There Any Permanent Solution For Mild Chronic Gastritis?
I asked a gastrointestinal doctor on here before but I lost the thread. I have mild chronic gastritis. it never ever goes. I'm back on pp I and carafate. I'm changing my diet. I developed this in 2011 after my pregnancies. I feel helpless and scared. Does having this mean that it will never go away? if I have this for years can it lead to cancer. it won't go and I'm so anxious. please help. I have no h pylori
Mild chronic gastritis, doesn't lead to cancer...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I read carefully your queries and understood your concerns.
You have experienced mild chronic gastritis since 2011. You should keep in mind that mild chronic gastritis is curable.
To completely cure gastritis it's necessary:
- to take medical therapy with antacids, PPIs (as you already do)
- to control your stress and anxiety (stress exacerbate gastritis)
- to redo upper endoscopy (to reevaluate the diagnosis since it was done 4 years ago)
- avoid alcohol and spicy food
- stop smoking
From all chronic gastritis only sever atrophic gastritis may degenerate on to stomach cancer. For the moment you should stay relaxed because you have only mild chronic gastritis. This way you will decrease your anxiety and by doing so it will help in treating gastritis.
Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

Schedule a new upper endoscopy to clear up your doubts...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
I understand your fears, but, still think you shouldn't go so far.
1. Gastritis can become atrophic in the following cases:
a. H.pylori infection (either infected during childhood and not well-treated; or chronic. H.Pylori infection resistant to therapy). In your case, you did the H.pylori testing and it resulted negative. So, no worry for such infection or atrophy as its result.
b. autoimmune atrophyc gastritis: which is also not your case.
As you may see, your worries are going too far while nothing is happening as per your thoughts.
2. Next, you are saying that you have hiatal hernia and reflux. Both of them can aggravate/trigger your symptoms.
3. So, to my opinion, you should:
- schedule another upper endoscopy to evaluate your upper GI tract including hernia and reflux with gastritis
- I congratulate for quitting smoking
- try to avoid drinking alcohol too
- be careful with foods/drinks you consume: avoid those that would trigger/aggravate your symptoms
- continue taking PPIs; after 8 weeks of therapy, consider redoing upper endoscopy.
Hope it was of help!

Please follow teh suggestions below
Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear
With regard to hiatal hernia treatment it depends of the size of hernia.
For big hiatal hernia more than 5 cm, treatment is surgery.
In other cases less than 5 cm, we recommend medical treatment for GERD ( acid reflux) like PPI.
I suggest to:
- use two pillow when you lay down
- eat often and small meals
- avoid carbonated drinks, coffee, smoking,
- try to control stress
wish you fast recover.

You'll be completely cured;no fear for Barret's...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
At this point, I advise to continue taking PPIs for at least 8 weeks. I am sure that you will be cured from all of this if you continue the right therapy and diet changes.
With regards to Barret's, do not worry because :
- no macroscopical lesion was noted during endoscopy
- the actual medications and diet changes you are following won't allow Barret's to develop
Hope it was help!
