Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, you are very right that chronic fatigue syndrome is a diagnosis of elimination. The good thing about this syndrome is that it does not effect our life expectancy that means to say that it does not make us die earlier , However the pain and fatigue can be really troublesome and I can understand that.
The worst thing about this is that still (even after 20 years) I am afraid that there is no effective medical treatment and no drug has been found to alleviate the fatigue , however non pharmacological therapies can help .Two things can help in this regards .
1. Graded exercise .this means increasing exercise done slowly and gradually to develop stamina (and avoid early fatigue)
2.CBT this is a type of psychotherapy done by specialist, which can change our thinking about the disease, which may help symptoms a lot.
Sometimes chronic fatigue syndrome is accompanied by fibromyalgia that is sever pains in the body if that is there some newer drugs like duloxetine, pregabalin, are good in controlling the pain.
Also important is to address the Co existent sleep (insomnia) and mode problem (depression) if any is there.
Regarding exposure to the epstein bar virus, that's something a lot of people would have, but that goes away in sometime and mostly not a big deal.
Though its always difficult to explain it fully here, but I hope I have answered your question. Still, if you need to ask any thing else, please don't hesitate, I would be happy to answer.
