Question: my 18-yr-old son sustained a concussion 4 months ago. He continues to have bad headaches and he does not sleep much at all. Is there anything I can get over the counter to help with the sleep? I think that getting more and better sleep will alleviate the headaches.

Brief Answer:
needs to see a neurologist

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

First, it is important that he sees a neurologist. Neurological symptoms like headache and loss of sleep could be a sign of some damage to the brain and this needs evaluation.
He could certainly try some melatonin for sleep. Make sure that he is getting regular exercise, has no more head trauma and is drinking plenty of water. He needs to avoid caffeine and alcohol since they are dehydrating.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
