Question: hi, I'm having problem with menopausal symptoms that are driving me absolutely crazy. I am 53 years old and was on HRT's until November 1st, 2020. I am having so many hot flashes that it's causing me to feel anxious and a little fluttering in my chest at times as well as a little nauseous from time to time. I get so hot and when I feel like I'm burning up my blood pressure actually starts to go up a little bit. I am becoming so frustrated. I was given a prescription for Venlafaxine HCI ER 24HR 75MG to take once a day. But, I do have concerns about the medicine. 1) How long will it take to relief these hot flashes? 2) What side effects do I need to worry about? Like will it make me gain weight? 3) Can I take it along with my blood pressure medicine? 4.) Gabapentin would it be better to take than the above prescription? If so, what dose would be recommendable?
Is there anything that I can take natural that will help with all this sweating? I'm sweating so much that I wet the bed up badly. This is horrible.....
Please get back with me asap as I'm truly suffering here....... Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Venlafaxine will help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

Venlafaxine is an effective medicine in decreasing hot flashes due to menopause. It is a better option than Gabapentin. After starting with Venlafaxine you are likely to feel relieved in 7-10 days. The common side effects were seen at 75 mg once a day are a dry mouth, sleeplessness, and decreased appetite. It does not cause a gain in weight.

You can take it with your blood pressure medicine. Do take the two medicines at least half-hour apart.
You need to decrease your anxiety that is aggravating the hot flashes. You can do mind and body relaxation exercises like deep breathing to help it.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow-up queries that you have.

Wishing you good health.
