Question: Hello. Lately I have noticed a tiny speck floating in my left eye whenever I look at a white background such as on the computer. I guess this is called floaters. Is there anything to stop it or to prevent it worsening as I age? Thank you.

Eye floaters are common and normal occurance as age advances. The floaters are caused by clumps of collageenous proteins floating in vitreous gel of eye.
If it is not too bothersome, no treatment is necessary.
If it is troublesome, you can try looking up and down repeatedly to displace the floaters from field of vision.
If the flowers are affecting your vision, then laser vitrectomy or surgical vitrectomy is indicated.
If you notice sudden worsening of floaters, visual changes or seeing flashes of light, follow up with the emergency room as it can be due to more serious conditions like retinal detachment.
