Question: Is this serious? My index finger felt like a pinching pain and when I looked at it I noticed that the underside up to the first joint is purple and swollen. It feels tingly yet numb. I use this finger on touch screens many times a day. I am right handed. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
consult to orthopedician...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, I think for purple and swollen finger, you may require further evaluation.

For further assessment, I would suggest you to consult with orthopedician for detailed clinical examination. He may procure x ray or MRI SOS as per evaluation to rule out any underlying fracture.

Meanwhile, you can take tablet motrin for pain. Apply ice or cold pack. Restrict finger movement. You may require finger straping after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query.
