Is This Something That Normally Goes Away Having A Lot Of Stomach Distress?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jan 2025
Question: Hi There. I switched from celexa to lexapro last week. I wasn't expecting much of a difference but I'm having a lot of stomach distress that I've never had on an SSRI. It doesn't usually hit me until after I take my 100 mgs lamictal in the morning and have food. Lexapro is the only thing that changed.

Is this something that normally goes away? Can I do something to ameliorate it?

Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Although it is unusual but the side effects with different SSRIs can be very different for the same individual. Considering this fact it is not a XXXXXXX that Lexapro caused more Gastrointestinal (G.I.) side effects in compare to Celexa and vise versa.

However it is true that G.I. side effects are time limited and generally last for a week or couple of weeks and most patients report no side effects after few days/weeks.

Meanwhile if the side effects are problematic you can use the Proton pump inhibitors for few days which are available over the counter. The examples include omeprazole, pentaprazole, esmoprazole among others.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
