Is This Something To Worry About I Had An Iron Infusion For Having 6.9 Hemoglobin Level?
Question: Hi I had an iron infusion for having 6.9 hemoglobin levels and chronic anemia. However after my first infusion, i had leg cramps and didnt feel my legs and ended up in ER. Luckily they changed my iron infusion to another brand that is a slow release of iron this was 2 1/2 weeks ago. Now i did my blood work and my iron went up ton 102 (average) but my ferritin level is 457. I am 38 year old woman. Is this something to worry about?
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
This latest report shows that iron has been replenished. No need of further iron treatment now. Gradually ferritin will come back to normal levels.
There's nothing to worry about it, provided hemoglobin has improved.
Hope this helps.
Regards

Thank you. My iron went from a 16 on Feb. 3rd to currently a 102. Also in Feb., my hemoglobin was 8.5 and is now at a 11.3. My concern is the drastic increase in Ferritin level and if it's suppose to go back to normal levels, when should I check again?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Ferritin reflects iron stores in body, so it shows that iron stores have been replenished in you.
It will certainly reduce over time but there's no great reason to check it again. We should do another hemoglobin in 2-3 months time to see if it's maintaining or not.
Regards
