Is Thumb Arthritis A Symptom Of Mold Allergy?
Question: Hi, I have been diagnosed with arthritis in my thumbs, can exposure to mold exacerbate or cause arthritis? If not what are symptoms that are caused by extended exposure to mold?
Lately my symptoms have worsened in my thumbs, with sharp pain and loss of strength and now my hip joints are hurting and I've been really tired. Are there changes in my diet can I make that may make a difference?

Brief Answer:
mold should not affect arthritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Mold exposure can cause rashes, respiratory problems and fatigue in some people but should not worsen arthritis.
I suggest that you try the supplement glucosamine at 1500 mg per day. It helps relieve arthritis pain and supports the cartilage in the joints.
It is not a pain pill so you have to take it for about a month to get relief. You could try a combination of ibuprofen and acetaminophen if the naproxen is not working.
Physical therapy may also help
If it is severe you may have to see a hand surgeon for a steroid injection into the joint.
I hope you get some relief soon.
