Is Thumb Fusion Surgery The Only Option For Carpometacarpal Osteoarthritis?
Question: Hello,
I have OA of my carpal-metacarpal Right joint of right thumb. Sometimes it's severe pain, and sometimes mild. At times I can't hold a pen properly. Is my only answer to this a fusion of this joint, or would anything else help this.

Brief Answer:
If no relief with medicines then surgery is only option.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The fusion of the joint will remove the pain but will decrease the function of the thumb. It is best to take proper pain killers and do a hot compress at the site and see if it helps. In case there is no relief with the conservative treatment then surgery is the only option.
I hope this answers your query.
