Is Train Travelling Suggestible During 31 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

My wife is pregnant and the estimated delivery date is 5th August, 2014. Her pregnancy is normal and health is also fine.
We have planned for a holiday to Darjeeling, a hill station in XXXXXXX (2100 Meters from Sea Level) for a couple of nights. We will be travelling by Train and then a Car (3 Hrs drive) upto the hills. The road conditions are average but we will be taking a SUV for sure. We will not be involved in any activity but just relax in the resort.
Will it be advisable for her to travel?
CAN TRAVEL AFTER CONSULTATION WITH HER DOCTOR.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
According to Expected Delivery Date (5th Aug, 2014), she is now 31 weeks plus pregnant. Traveling should be ideally avoided during pregnancy especially in first trimester and toward late third trimester.
However, if it is really necessary, then TRAIN journey is QUITE SAFE in the 8th month of pregnancy because of less jerks and comfort. So, you can travel by train as her pregnancy is NORMAL with fine health.
During travel, she can follow some general measures like:
- Better to prefer lower seat as much as possible.
- Try to complete most of the journey in lying either supine or lateral positions.
- Prefer homemade food, AVOID eating food supplied in train and spicy/ fatty one.
- Before traveling better to consult with her GYNECOLOGIST once for check up and take care of high altitude problem (due to Hill Station Area)
- Take regular tablets (IRON, CALCIUM etc), diet etc in time during traveling also.
Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.
Wish her good health and take care yourself.
Regards,
Dr Soumen
