Question: Hi, my wife just delivered a baby (on 26dec) and we will be leaving the hospital tomorrow. Our home town is 10 hours away by car travel and i wanted to check:

1- is car a safe mode of travel after a c section
2- what is a safe wait time before which we can travel
3- what precautions do i need to aware of before the travel? Both for the mother and the baby.

Pls advise.

Thx

Brief Answer:
car travel is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. Parvarth, I understand your anxiety.
Car is safe for travel, no problem in traveling.
Wait for at least 3 days post cesarean I.e. can travel tomorrow.
As per precautions -
- take ample amount of water in journey
- hygienic toilet use
- frequent stoppage in between and walk a little or just frequent change in leg position
- feed the baby at regular intervals.
Wish you the best of journey.

Thanks much doctor. For some reason, my wife had the fear that there shoule be no long travel (especially since it will take around 10 hours) after cesarean. Are you saying such a long wait is not necessary? Just want to be double sure. Please let me know.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
safe to travel

Detailed Answer:
Yes sir, no need to wait any longer if you don't have any place at the station delivery took place.
She needs to feel comfortable and that is all we need.
In case she denies to walk in between journey she can try folding and straightening them alternately.
Take care.
