Is Trembling Hand A Side Effect Of Increased Dose Of Sertraline?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Sep 2014
Question: My doc just increased my dose of sertraline to 150 mg per day because I had only a 2 week period of improvement at the 100 mg per day dose before feeling my symptoms return. I am now feeling trembling in my hands and other muscles when used along with mild nausea. This was never present with my initial anxiety symptoms OR when I was on lower doses of sertraline so I assume its a side effect, Yes?? Also I read that when you start having side effects, you know the medication is starting to work. Is this true??? Thanks in advance

Brief Answer:
Yes its a side effect

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.

The tremors and nausea that you have described could very well be a side effect of sertaline. Infact nausea is one of the commonest side effect of sertraline as its main action is on the gut serotonine receptors. Now that its been a very short period, it would be fine to just wait a week more as the side effects may setttle down. If it is intolerable then the better option would be to switch to mirtazapine or bupropion etc.
Coming to your second question, it is not necessary that if there are side effects there should be reauired effects as well. Sometimes there may be only side effects without the benefici effects. That is the time one should consider changing the medications.
Coming to your next patt.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
