Is Trephination Or Surgery Suitable To Treat Biceps Tendon Tear At The Elbow?
Question: I have recently seen an orthopedic surgeon regarding a torn tendon in my right elbow. I have had this problem for about 6 years. Cortisone injections have been done. He suggest I do Trephination on my elbow and then, if that doesn't work, he will do surgery on my elbow. I am wondering if I should just go straight for surgery? Trephination vs. surgery is basically what I would like your opinion on.

Why? Can you tell me why you suggest surgery? Have you had any experience with Trephination yourself?? I would appreciate a more detailed answer, if possible.

I ask because my current orthopedic surgeon said that percentages are higher for success with Trephination vs. surgery. Do you not agree??

Brief Answer:
Surgery is more preferable
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir
I have researched on your query for sometime.
According to this , trephination even though a recent procedure, the success rates are not quite well established.
Surgery always carries a better outcome due to direct supervision.
Hence in my view, both procedures are effective but open surgery is more advisable.
