default
Posted on Fri, 13 Jun 2014
Question: I currently had a CT Scan done and they found a small umbilical hernia, a cyst on both ovaries, cyst on my liver, and a cyst on bottom of lumbar. Should I be concerned with these and what should I do? XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Management will depend on clinical assessment

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day,

Let me assure there is no cause for concern. I would require some more additional information to clarify the things.
Small Umbilical hernia detected co-incidentally without much herniation of abdominal contents is not of much concern. Further management will depend on clinical assessment , if there is swelling at umbilicus obvious while coughing or straining will require operative repair. It will be a routine planned surgery.

Coming to issue of cyst in ovary , it depends on character of cyst. If the CT scan shows smooth walled homogenous cyst with clear contents there is no cause for concern. It will require serial follow up.

I would require detailed CT scan report for commenting about cyst at lumbar region and Liver Cyst

I I was your Surgeon, if i had clinically found Umbilical hernia I would have suggested Repair of the same as a planned surgery. I would have done Laparosopy through the Single Umbilical port, inspected the ovarian cyst, if its big would have punctured it and taken biopsy of it. Followed by which would have done repair of Umbilical hernia.
You can get a thorough clinical assessment from your Surgeon and plan it.

Do Get Back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
