Is Under Arms Check Up Required After Breast Removal Surgery?
Question: I'm scheduled for a lest breast removal May 8 It is a grade 2 stage l mas. I have a heart stent in the left descending artery the doctor said he could do a modified removal, but was worried what radiation might do to the stent due to the fact that is where the radiation has to be placed, and I would need 25 treatments. Plus I'm fair skinned so he was worried how my skin would do about burning . They do not feel that they do not have to worry about under the arm, and it is contended in the breast so it's removal would take care of it . No chemo, and no radiation needed. My question is will this take care of it or do I still need to do my monthly checks under my arm?
Brief Answer:
that will be needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Monthly checkup of under arms will be needed for first six months, maybe even longer depending upon the margin of clearance post excision in the histopathology report. Since its the most important place of recurrence, I would not want to miss out on early recurrence.
If margins are positive or close then longer follow up will be needed.
Hope I answered your question.
